I’m also not sure i mentioned before but the last feed is already part of the bed time routine and done 20 minutes before laying down.

I was considering a dream feed and I wonder your thoughts on that?
At the moment, the baby isn’t waking at night for a feed and I still wake him up in the morning but I have worried it is a long time without a feed…on the other hand I figure he would wake up to tell me if he was hungry and every baby must be different with him being a larger baby. If he starts waking up hungry, I could add a dream feed or increase ounces in the day? I essentially feed him whatever quantity he wants every 2.5 hours in the day.
I will most likely need to drop the 5th nap soon too and at the moment each feed is after a nap hence how I ended up with 6….does that mean I might feed after nap 4 then again just before bed in the same wake window?
Best wishes

That’s great. I was hoping I was doing the right thing as that is what I have been doing. Your reassurance is all I need to keep going. Thank you!

I realised I should probably give you more information on what we are currently doing:
Wake at 7am then first feed around 710-715am.
First nap then feed 2.
Second nap then feed 3.
Third nap then feed 4.
Fourth nap then feed 5.
Fifth nap is a cat nap around 30-45 minutes max but more on the 30 end then feed 6 is just before bed, currently around 820pm with a put down time of 845pm and asleep by 9pm.
He is 13 weeks old, a larger baby in height and weight on the 75th centile, formula fed and feeds around every 2.5 hours in the day. Even if the nap is short, I will wait 2.5 hours to feed then do some activity before the next sleep to break it up.

Hi Emma,
Thank you for giving me even more useful advice – we are at a 9pm bedtime now, which is lovely. I just wondered as if I continue to move bedtime back then the 6th feed will no longer happen – do you have any advice on how to handle that?

Hi Emma,
Firstly I wanted to thank you so much for your advice as it has been immensely helpful. I don’t think I would be getting half as much sleep without it!
I have noticed the baby is sleeping in more so now I wake him at 7am – could this be a sign he is ready for an earlier bedtime? He is 12 weeks now and it is currently 930pm.

Hi Emma,
Thank you for your advice. I watched the video on purple crying and that fits with us. A later bedtime has worked alot better. Can I ask how to know when to make bedtime earlier and how do I make it earlier when the time comes? Do you have any recommendations on when to wean swaddling as I am getting mixed advice on whether it is better to do between 8-12 weeks or later.
I very much appreciate your advice.

Hi Emma,
Thank you for your reply. I have wondered if his bedtime is later but when I tried a later bedtime, it still took a while to put him down in his basket. I am aiming for a bedtime around 730-8pm. Yesterday when he let me put him down at 845pm, he woke up after 45 minutes then went back to sleep at 945pm for 7 hours. A couple of days, we accidentally gave him a late bedtime of 930pm and he miraculously slept for 8 hours. Maybe I should try consistently for a bedtime around 930…it just feels so late and would mean he would have 6 naps. Is that ok? And does his morning still start at 7am? He usually wakes between 645am and 730am.
I previously tried a later bedtime of 9pm but have to admit I wasn’t consistent. When I did try for a day, he still would fall asleep in the arms but everytime I tried to put him down he would be wide awake. He will consistently fall asleep at 120 minute mark. Perhaps I’m not keeping him awake long enough.I try to put him down around the 60 minute mark when he is fussing, although I don’t see many of the other cues and I could wait for some other signs like yawns in case it is related to purple crying. At 8 weeks, how long would you expect him to be awake before bed? When he slept 8 hours, he also had a short 20 minute nap beforehand so maybe that drove his sleep pressure.
Best wishes,
Paven
