Hey Emma.
Thanks so much.. I am going to try implementing the above tips. Helps to have a cut off for the pyramid… Now I know if it doesn’t work in 20 minutes just put him to sleep.
Thanks again… Let’s hope this works

Hey Emma
I totally get the questions and appreciate you taking time to help.
- So I wake him between 7 and 7.30 unless he wakes up earlier on his own.
- He naps all day currently.. With the odd wake periods during feed time. He hasn’t really been up for play time much. I find that he nods of to sleep while I’m feeding him. He does sometimes get up when I put him down, but I can see he does want to sleep. He is more awake for about 2 hours in the morning and 2 hours in the afternoon. For the past 2nights I slept with him on me and that seemed to have gotten him to sleep.
- He naps in his crib most of the time, unless he’s very crabby.
- I put him down drowsey and tap him to sleep or stroke his forehead which sometimes works. I find tapping his bum works better than the chest so I use that.
- Current napping room is not really dark or noise free. I can’t do dark or noise free during the day at this point as there is no room available. I use white noise to drown out sounds around him.
- I swaddle him sometimes as he sometimes gets crabby with a swaddle. Hands at the face as he wants to sleep that way and gets crabby when I tie them down.
- I started using a pacifier over the past 2 days.
- He doesn’t really have a bed time routine because I find him not awake between his last nap and bedtime.
- The routine is change, feed and nap. I add in play where he is not sleeping once the feed is done.
- He doesn’t poop at night so I don’t change his diaper at night.
- I don’t put any light on at night.
- When he sleeps on me at night he lies almost in my arms flat but propped up by a cushion.
- I am feeding him breast and formula
- I burp after every feed, if he doesn’t burp I leave him be.
- He has gained weight. His birth weight was 2.9kgs and he is now 3.6kgs.
I took him to the paed yesterday and they suggested changing his formula as he could be colic so we’ve done this. There are times where putting him down drowsey just doesn’t work so I put him down asleep.
Hope I adequately answered your questions… How long should I attempt the pyramid before giving up and just putting him to sleep in my arms? There are times where I am attempting for 45 minutes which can be frustrating.
Thanks again Emma

Thanks Emma
This does really help. It’s really hard to read his sleep cues right now but I am trying to understand him.
Yes, everything is quite busy and new so we are adjusting.
I am experiencing him stay up for most of the night… Like between 1.30am and 5am. I am actually sleeping with him in my arms at this point so that I can get some sleep in. He wakes at about 1.30 and has a feed and then refuses to settle back down in his cot. Do you know what could have changed? It’s something new that he has started for just a few days. Previously he was sleeping fine at night and just getting up for feeds and going back down easily.
I am trying the pyramid every chance I get during the day but it’s a bit daunting to do this during the night. I tried it for 45 minutes this morning and he falls asleep but wakes within 5 minutes. Is there anything you can suggest on making the pyramid smoother? I guess I just need to be consistent and keep trying even when I feel it isn’t working?
Thanks so much
Leone
