Hi Emma,
Thank you for that. Sorry for the delay, we’ve been trying that out.
She naturally likes to have her arms up, but we’ve been swaddling them down.
I’ve tried skipping the 3rd feed, but unless she’s full from the first 2, which is rare, I’ve never been able to settle her while she is seeking food. It seems like she’ll scream her heart out for a long time in that case.
We haven’t had any luck with the pram either, she seems to stay awake.
We have a bouncing sling bed thing (slyngevugge) with a motor. We can sometimes get her to fall asleep on her own in that.
I also haven’t managed any success with the settling pyramid yet. Swaddling helps, but when lying her down on a flat stationary surface she tends to start crying hard fast, unless she is already asleep (in which case she tends to wake up, but slower).
Patting or rubbing don’t seem to have much affect. Shushing is good, but only if she’s not already crying too hard.
I can sometimes have her fall asleep in my arms, then slide her down to the bed beside me. I’m trying that as an intermediate step, though I don’t know if she’s learning much from it.
If you have any more thoughts, they’d be very much appreciated!
Thanks,
Justin

Thanks Emma!
For those questions:
1. Not really. She wakes up to eat really often, Every 1-3 hours normally, but it’s at different times each day.
2. Yes, we get wide open eyes sometimes, though not for long periods, often interspersed with crying that I think might be pooping frustration
3. She wakes on her own. Any nap longer than 20min and she’ll probably want to feed if anything wakes her up.
4. Yeah generally feed, change, feed, sometimes with a 3rd feed. I don’t have the hang of playtime yet. Sometimes she stops crying when I put her down, so I put her in the baby gym, but it feels random.
5. Yeah she’s often quite happy on the changing table, at least for a few minutes. And sometimes she’ll lie by herself in the baby gym for a bit. I don’t know if she’s generally happy, we react when she cries until she stops. She’s been crying in my arms a bit more recently, I’m guessing gas/intestinal discomfort or maybe starting a little purple crying.
6. Typically 2-3 sessions of about 7 minutes each, over 30-40min
7. No swaddle yet, but we just bought some. She startles a lot in her sleep, despite no movements or sounds happening but doesn’t often seen to wake up from it any more. When she wakes up it’s usually with stretching and kicking
8. Night doesn’t feel much different from day, but we can usually get her to start a nap between 9-11pm. That one is often shorter, then a longer one after.
9. No, no different from any other nap since she is almost always falling asleep at the breast. So I guess breastfeed and then bouncing/rocking maybe?
10. About 12-16 times a day, clustered together. On average I’d say 2 hours between clusters during the day and 3 hours between more condensed feeds at night.
11. Yes, we have decent space and a tiled floor.
12. Yeah definitely. The flat bed part comes off the wheels and can be carried. When one of us does try putting her down is almost always in there now.
Thank you!
