    Hi Emma,

    I am glad all is well, and your youngest is feeling better and that she stopped sucking her finger 🙂

    Let me get back to you before my time here runs out (very sad about almost the end of my journey here <3 ). Here are my answers to your questions:

    · What time does she wake up in the morning?

    <ul type=”disc”>
    <ul type=”circle”>

  • She typically wakes at 6 am
  • · What time does she nap, and how long are her naps?

    <ul type=”disc”>
    <ul type=”circle”>

  • Her first nap we aim for 9 am, typically only 30 minutes
  • Second nap at 1 pm, typically only 30 minutes. Our nanny can at
    times extend this one to a total of 1 hour.
  • · What time does she go to sleep at night?

    <ul type=”disc”>
    <ul type=”circle”>

  • We put her in bed at 6 pm if she wakes anything before or at 2 pm.
    If she had a longer afternoon nap we let her sleep at 6:30 pm
  • · What is her nap routine?

    <ul type=”disc”>
    <ul type=”circle”>

  • We go to her room, read a book, close the blinds, rock her a bit (probably
    30 seconds) then put her down and tap her. Our nanny does not leave the
    room and stays with her tapping her.
  • When her father and I do this over the weekends, she fights the
    naps a lot more and does not seem to calm down when we place her in her
    cot. We have tried staying next to her and also leaving the room.
  • · Where is she sleeping for her naps – so what’s the environment like, is it the same place she sleeps overnight?

    <ul type=”disc”>
    <ul type=”circle”>

  • She sleeps in her room in her cot (same place as night sleep). We
    have blockout curtains installed and use a white noise machine.
  • · What is the bedtime routine and how are you settling her to sleep at this time?

    <ul type=”disc”>
    <ul type=”circle”>

  • At night we play, bathe her, dress her, breastfeed, read a story
    book (all in our room), then take her to her room and place her in her cot,
    then leave the room.
  • With her naps, she fights them a lot more over the weekends compared to the week. For example this weekend we did the nap routine and put her down at 9 am, she did not settle and was crying a lot, we eventually at 9:30 am took her out of the room and gave her a 20 minute time-out to relax outside of the room. Just before 10 am we did the nap routine again and place her in her cot, it took another 20 minutes and eventually she fell asleep only to wake 24 minutes later.

    It does seem like the little amount of sleep is starting to affect her night time sleep as she wakes around 1am and then sometimes again at 5 am. I try to feed her only once per night and try to do so after 2 am, to get her to stretch to 6am without having to go in and feed her again at 5 am.

    It has been so great working with you and getting your inputs and support J Looking forward to your advice on this.

    warm regards, Monique

    Hi Emma, thank you for getting back to me 🙂 I did do as you suggested and it seems around 8pm. However, she wakes at 6 am and still does 3 naps. If she wakes at 3 pm she is very tired at 6 pm – 6:30 pm. Should I stretch her for another 2 hours? Or what would you suggest?

    Hi Emma, I am glad everyone is doing well 🙂

    Awesome, thank you. Apologies for the delayed response, life happened 😄

    So we tried the gentler approach but it was not working so we committed and removed the dummy at bed time. She eventually got use to it (about 3 nights). So we started to remove the dummy on Friday for naps. However, it has been much tougher for her to settle without it during the day

    Do they still need to suck something to soothe themselves?

    Hi Emma, hope you are well.

    So tonight we did not use the pacifier to put her to sleep. She however she cried, which sounded hysterical (snot and tears), and we quickly moved up the settling pyramid. However after 10 minutes of crying (rocking and singing still could not settle her) we put her down and gave her her pacifier. She settled very quickly and fell asleep on her own but with the pacifier.

    What do you suggest? Should we try removing it with the following wakings during the night or rather again tomorrow evening? And then if she cries like this again how long should we leave her to cry whilst rocking and trying to calm her without the pacifier?

    Ideally we would like her to sleep without it, but I am not sure how to proceed.

    Warm regards

    Monique

    Hi Emma, thank you very much. We will definitely try this. This has been going on for months now and we are exhausted.

    Do you think this will also help her stretch her night sleep? Or is it something else? Her maximum stretch is 2.5 hours and I see in your one information sheet that from 4 months they can do anything from 5 hours +. She only woke up twice at one stage (around 4 months) but it has only gotten worse and she wakes up about 6 – 8 times a night now crying.

    She falls asleep on her own at the start of the night (with her dummy and we have a small blanky with a tag)

    Warm regards

    Monique

    Hi Emma, apologies I had s typo she is 7.5 months.

    She does this (waking after every 2 to 10 minutes) after falling back to sleep (shushing, rocking, patting etc.), during the night as well.

    Hi Emma<div>

    Thank you, please see my answers below.

    1. How old is your baby? She is 6.5 months old.

    2. What time does her last nap of the day end? Her last nap typically ends around 3 or 4. She is on 3 naps a day. Usually wakes at 6 am (or earlier).

    3. What time is her bedtime? Is this time consistent or does it vary?

    Her bed time is consistent at 6:30. Bath at 6 pm. She is tired at this time (red eyes, rubbing eyes).

    4. What time does she tend to fall into a deeper sleep (so when she sleeps for about 2 hours)? Does this time vary or is it consistent?

    I would say around 8 pm. But during the night she does the same and does not get in longer stretches.

    5. What does she wear to bed? Is she in a swaddle, sleeping bag with arms free etc?

    She typically wears a vest, it was quite hot here now around 28-29 degrees. She moves around a lot. When she was younger we did use a sleeping bag but she does not like it and kicks her legs and feet against the material.

    6. Where does she sleep – what’s the room like?

    She sleeps in her own crib in her oen room.

    We play white noise for her and it is completely dark.

    7. Does she use a pacifier and if so do you need to pop this back into her mouth often. Yes she sleeps with a pacifier and we put it back in each time she wakes up. She wakes up and cries a lot. She can’t self settle and when we leave her for a bit she seems to get more hysterical

    She falls asleep on her own (put her down drowsy but awake) in her crib at night. But when she wakes we cannot always get her to sleep again by just patting. We need to pick her up and rock her or these days offer a feed. She use to only wakeup 2 times per night to drink. She is on 5 (minimum) to 9 (max) hours of sleep per night.

    Thank you Emma.
