Thank you for the quick reply! We will try what you have suggested for the short naps at home and otherwise just go with the short nap if he seems happy enough to be awake.
To answer your follow up questions:
Morning wake: typically between 5:45-6:15. If he is not up by then, we will wake him up so he has time to eat and we have time to get ready for work. If it is a weekend, his first nap will typically be around 8, maybe 8:30 if he had a really good night of sleep. The tricky thing with daycare is we need to drop him off by 7:45 to get to work, so he is getting there sleepy but has a hard time getting a nap since the rest of the babies are getting dropped off as well and the environment is pretty loud/bright at that time.
Nap routine: yes, diaper, sleep sack, lights out and white noise on. To get him to sleep we then sing him a lullaby, and rock and shush him (sometimes have to walk around the house to get him to settle). Similar at night.
Modified settling pyramid: since we haven’t had much luck yet getting him to settle to sleep in his crib, we have been holding him until he is asleep then transferring him to the crib. After reading some of these posts, we have been trying to stop the rocking once he is quieted down and let him fall asleep without the motion but still in our arms. We have made good progress with that but if we try to put him down drowsy but awake, he gets agitated and cries usually within 1-2 minutes, at which point we pick him up and resettle
Daytime routine: yes, at home we generally follow the wake-feed-play routine. With daycare, he probably is following more of a feed-sleep-play when he does sleep
Bedtime: similar to naps, using the modified settling pyramid. He actually moved into his own room with his earlier bedtime 2-3 weeks ago, but I tend to hear if he wakes up on the monitor and can see him settling back down
Daycare: they do keep it dark during nap times when most babies sleep. It sounds like they often have babies feeding and sleeping at the same time then turn on the lights for playtime during certain periods. I haven’t noticed white noise but can ask about bringing ours in
I think they can accommodate a short sleep routine like a lullaby. It likely depends on the day and the other babies’ feeding schedules
It sounds like they hold and rock him until he is asleep or almost asleep, then put him down but he struggles to stay asleep. They can’t consistently resettle him again due to other babies needs, so at that point he is left to try to settle himself back to sleep. If they can hold him longer or calm him in a swing they do
