Hi Emma,
Thank you for your detailed reply.
He is sleeping better at night but that day was rough for naps. He cried a lot and one of the naps was 35 minutes of sleep while he constantly ate. we put him back in the swaddle. He started to have teething pain (or some kind of pre teething pain). I figured this is not the best time to add the transition out of the swaddle. Was this the right call? How long does the swaddle transition usually take?
On the other hand the night after was the best he ever had. He slept for 6 hours, was awake for 1 for feeding and a diaper and then another 4 hours of sleep until wake up time. I think he ate more during the day and was sleeping less.
Regarding your questions:
1) he wakes between 5 and 5:30 and I settle him by either holding him and feeding him if he is hungry or holding him and giving him his pacifier. Sometimes I can put him back down too. This was the case today. He woke up at 5:20, I feed him for 6minutes and put him back to the crib at 5:35. He slept until 6:40.
2) he stays awake for 1-2 hours depending on the length of the nap.
3) Between 3 and 5, depending only the length of the naps and if we have any appointments. On most days it is 4 naps.
4+9) Nap routine: go to bedroom, put him in the swaddle, give paci, close blinds, cuddle up on the bed (I hold him in my arms), turn off the light (very dim night light stays on, start white noise on Alexa, sing his lullaby, put him in the crib. Then we do the pyramid or if that fails I take him back up and settle him in my arms.
Sometimes he is super restless and spits out the paci and wants to feed. So I feed him. As he is not good with eating, I‘m happy if he is willing to eat without crying or fussing after 5minutes. I still try to put him down awake or atleast directly after the feed.
Night time: dad changes diaper and dresses him for the night and puts him in the swaddle, then he brings him to the bedroom where I am. at this point in time it is around 6:30pm. We say good night to dad, dad closes the blinds and leaves the room, I read a book to our son, we turn off the lights other than the night light, I turn on the withe noise and sing lullaby while I feed him. Then I put him in his crib and we do the pyramid. If he does not settle well I give him his pacifier. Now it is around 7 to 7:30pm.
5) He usually has 1 nap in the carrier on a walk. Other than that yes.
6) no some naps are longer. Due to your example videos I also learnt that I need to wait longer to figure out if he is awake. Turns out I sometimes woke him up when he was not truly awake. Today all naps were longer except the last which I woke him up from due to bed time coming close.
7) paci and pyramid. Or picking him up and rocking him. Or feeding him if he seems hungry or nothing else helps.
8) usually 3 feeds at night. He is hungry a lot at night since he eats bad during the day.
9) see 5)
Is there anything I can do about the day time feeding? I think that is the big factor for the naps working with the pyramid and for a good night sleep.
One other question I have: He is still pooping once at night. Usually during the first feed. Is there anything I can do to help him to not poop at night?
Thank you Emma
